Kenyan football stakeholders feel that the East Africa region will host a successful 2027 Africa Nations Cup if only the upcoming Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections are held in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania were awarded the hosting rights for the prestigious continental tournament by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) last week.

However, a section of football stakeholders led by Kenya Soccer Players Association (KEPSA) Secretary General Harold Ndege, Kenya Football Fans Federation (KEFOFA) CEO Shem Okottah, Nairobi County Football Association (CFA) Secretary General Wilfred Marori, former Kenyan internationals Bobby Ogolla, George Sunguti and Mickey Weche want Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba to intervene and provide a clear road map for elections scheduled for February 24 2024.

In a statement read during a press conference in Nairobi yesterday, the stakeholders said the current administration lacks the capacity in terms of skilled personnel and intelligence to be part of the organising team of the East African AFCON Pamoja bid 2027.

"FKF has lost the good will of the fans who are the people of Kenya. Without fans, there'll be no attendance to the matches. Without fans there'll be no private sector investment into the event as they are the target for visibility. Without fans there'll be no eyeballs to watch the matches on tv. There'll be no event if there are no fans," they said.

"Suffice to say that to safeguard the integrity of the game and that of the Kenyan people, it's prudent for the CS for Youth Affairs, the Arts & Sports Hon. Ababu Namwamba to provide a Road Map for the February 24th 2024 FKF elections with an election board, election code and voter register to usher a new administration that has integrity, is accountable and transparent and has the capacity to organize the event."
